This is a free download and is very similar to Voice Memos. The difference is you can choose the quality of the recording. When you delete the recording, it goes into another folder called ‘deleted recordings’. This is great if the children accidentally delete it as it can be retrieved or deleted completely. Great for all years.

This is a fun game focusing on initial letter/sounds. The children need to match the upper and lower case letters and a picture that begins with that letter/sound. Great for early years.
There are many apps that are similar to this one. It is a game of memory where the children need to match upper and lower case letters. This game says the letter when the children click on it. Some ABC memory games are only in one case and some do not have sound. Great for early years.
Sentence spin is an app where the children can spin the start, middle and end to make a silly sentence. Once they are happy with their sentence, they illustrate it. The children can save their sentence to share it with others. This app does not make sound, so the children need to be able to read the words. Great for early to middle years.
This is a great app for breaking words into sounds. There are four options to this app; initial, middle or end sounds, or random sounds. There are two difficulties you can choose from. The above pictures are on the easier setting. The children can keep track of their score and the app will give stars, flowers, ribbons etc after every 5 correct responses. Only negative - sometimes the letter does not correlate to the sound, i.e. _hone (phone) Great for early years
This is a phonics app. It has many different sounds, starting with simple single sounds to blends. The children practise writing the letter while they hear the sound it makes. There is a little 'test' at the end. It will say a sound and the children have to click the right letter to make a word. Great for early years.

This is a fun game of hangman, but there is no man but apples on a tree that fall to the ground. There is a snake that will give you hints if you want/need it! There is no sound, so children will need to be able to read the word.

There are two parts to this app, a 'learn' part (where the children hear the tables and answers) and a 'play' part (game). In the game, children can choose which times tables to focus on and how many questions they are asked. They either do the 'drill' or choose to be given random questions.

Another app with a sum and multiple choice answers. You can choose which operation you want to focus on. It doesn't make a big deal for incorrect responses. For early years, I like the children to use hands on materials to help them work out the answer. For older children, this is great for automatic recall. Great for all years.
Basic Math is an app that gives the child a sum and three answers to choose from. There are lots of settings so that you can individualise it for your children. It keeps score and gives the child a percentage of correct responses. Great for all years.
This is a fun game where the children need to pick numbers that add to make ten. They don't have to choose two blocks (i.e. 4 & 6), they can choose many numbers to get rid of more (i.e. 1, 2, 1, 3 & 3). They have to work fast before the blocks reach the bottom. Great for early to middle years.
'Lite' version only shows o'clocks and half past. Full version has 3 difficulty levels and presents times randomly down to 5 minute increments. The app shows three clocks and says a time. Children need to pick the right clock. Once they have, it shows the time in digital and analogue times.

You can use pencil marks in this app. When you get really stuck, there is a hints button, which gives you different kinds of hints. Once you have completed the puzzle, it will tell you how long it took you and a percentage of people you solved the puzzle faster than. Great for all years.
